The U.S. at a Critical Juncture in the Monkeypox Pandemic as Cases Surge to 3,000

1 min read

Epidemiologists and public health professionals warn that the United States is running out of time to stop a monkeypox outbreak that has infected almost 3,000 Americans, following the World Health Organization’s declaration of a public health emergency.

Despite little testing, the number of cases has been rising quickly lately. The outbreak might require a more extensive reaction to be contained.

Health experts in the United States and other countries expressed optimism that the disease could be controlled during the beginning of the outbreak in May when there were only a few cases outside of Africa, where the illness is prevalent.

But since the WHO announcement and the rapid increase in cases, the country faces an uncertain future regarding the monkeypox pandemic.
